The two wedding jackets are the Prince Charlie and the Argyll. The Prince Charlie is a dinner jacket with short tails at the back. It suits a formal wedding. The Argyll is less formal, like a good suit.
Which tartan? Traditionally, people wear the clan tartan of their surname. You can search the Scottish Register of Tartans by name. If yours has none, look for a district tartan from where your family lived, or one made for anyone to wear.
The bride often wears a tartan sash. It is pinned at one shoulder. At some weddings, a family member pins a clan tartan sash or rosette on the partner in the ceremony. It welcomes them into the clan.
Is one of you Irish? See our guide to the Irish wedding cake topper.
Here is one couple with each jacket. The kilt and her tartan sash stay the same.
