How the field splits: flat or 3D
A flat topper cut from gold mirror acrylic.Toppers come in two families. Flat toppers are cut or printed from one sheet, often acrylic or wood. They are the cheapest kind.
3D toppers are figures you can walk around. They cost more, because someone has to model two real people. Some are sculpted by hand in clay. Others are 3D printed and painted by hand, or printed in full color in one go.

Mass-made vinylWhat sets the price of a 3D figure
Across Etsy shops, the typical 3D figure costs $124 at 4 inches (10 cm) and $172 at 7¾ inches (20 cm). Inside one listing, 7 inches (18 cm) costs about 40% more than 4¾ inches (12 cm).
- Hand-sculpted: across shops, the price barely changes from 4¾ inches (12 cm) to 7 inches (18 cm). Inside one shop, a taller figure still costs more.
- Printed and painted by hand: the price rises with the height.
- Full-color 3D printed: the price rises with the material. A figure twice as tall holds about eight times as much.
- Flat: the height barely moves the price.

Costs the price tag can hide
- Shipping: some shops add it at checkout.
- Import fees: many hand-sculpted figures ship from studios in Asia, and customs charges are yours to pay.
- Extras: a gift box or faster delivery cost more.
- Breakage: big hand-made figures break more easily, so their shipping and remakes cost more.
What we paid for 8 toppers
In April 2026 we bought 8 custom toppers from 8 makers.
- $2,219spent in total, with shipping and fees
- $105the cheapest, delivered
- $833the priciest, with import fees into the EU
- 127days for the slowest, held at customs
The most expensive one was a 3D print. A higher price did not buy a closer likeness.

Questions
- Is the listed price for both of us?
- Not always. Read which option the price covers before you order. If the listing does not say, ask the seller.
- How far ahead should I order?
- Makers of hand-made figures often ask for four to six weeks. Customs can hold an order longer, so start early.
- What if it arrives broken?
- Photograph the box and the figure first. Write to the seller the same day. On Etsy, you can open a case if the seller does not help.
- Do changes to the design cost extra?
- It depends on the maker. Some include changes, others charge for each round. Ask before you pay. With us, re-sculpts are free until the likeness is right.
